Beaded Shawl.

One of the members of the Embroiderers Guild was at the talk about embroidered peacocks that I presented a few months ago.  She came up to me today  and gave me this stunning beaded shawl.  She inherited it from a well-travelled friend, and although she doesn't know where her friend got it, I am guessing it might be from India.  Here are some photos - one of the full length, and one closer up.

Peacock comic strip.

I suppose I could get into trouble, posting this on my blog, but really....it's not doing any harm, and I am not claiming it to be my own work - far from it!   It was published on a Melbourne newspaper comic strip page a few weeks ago, and I laughed myself silly over it.

Embroidered peacocks presentation.

I don't know if anyone is reading this blog any more.  I haven't heard from my old friend Lakshmi in India for months, and I really miss reading her blog, which is now closed to all but a selected few readers.  I know she was having problems with spammers and other nuisances, so I don't blame her for shutting the door.
Anyway, for those who are still around here, I presented a talk about my embroidered peacocks at the Embroiderers Guild of Vic. today, and it was very well received.  I have posted details on my other stitching blog, but decided to post the photos of the display here as well.

Beautiful fabric panel.

There is an incredible amount of patchwork fabric available featuring peacocks, and I have a few metres of different fabrics, but when I saw this panel on an Etsy site (or was it eBay?  I get those two mixed up), I simply had to buy it.  I'm already thinking about what I'll do with it - it will be a wall hanging or throw, with the panel surrounded by borders of peacock feather fabrics and matching colours.

Beaded Peacock scarf

I work in an opportunity shop in Eltham, one day a week.  Today this scarf was in a box of donated clothes, and the manager brought it out to show me.  Talk about being in the right place at the right time!  I'm sure if I hadn't been there today, and the scarf had been put out on the shelves, it would have been snapped up by a customer!

This blog is still active - just quiet!

I hope my readers understand that the reason I haven't posted anything on here for so long is simply because I haven't found any more embroidered peacocks since I last posted.  I still haven't, but I just wanted to tell you something....I've been invited by the Embroiderers Guild (Vic) to give a talk about my Peacocks collection!  It will be at their monthly meeting in June.  I've been wanting for a long time to do a talk about this particular facet of my linen collection, and here is my chance!  Now I have to decide which items to take along to display, as I won't be able to fit them all in.   I'll have about 40 minutes to present my talk, and there are large display boards where the embroideries can be pinned up.  Once I've made up my mind, I'll do another post here to show you what I'll be taking.
